Alder Brook Cemetery Public Clean-up Day
- This event has passed.
September 16, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
The public is invited on Sunday, September 16th, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (weather permitting) to assist board members cleaning around flush markers. The cemetery itself, those interred, and the care of the headstones/markers are a priority of the Alder Brook Cemetery Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meets and corresponds regularly, working with and overseeing our sexton and contractors to address the ongoing care of the cemetery.
During the last few years, overgrown shrubbery and other vegetation have been removed, damaged headstones repaired, roadways repaved among other tasks. As one of the largest cemeteries in town, these tasks and the cost are considerable and constant. Regulations are in place to allow families to honor those interred while keeping the time and cost required to maintain the cemetery within budget.
Grass growing over the edges of flush markers is a continual workload, especially during years like this where crabgrass especially spreads quickly. There are hundreds of flush markers, not only in the older section where immediate family members are no longer alive and descendants rarely visit but throughout the cemetery. Your help to clean off the grass that has encroached on these flush markers is welcome and appreciated.
Please bring gardening tools, wheelbarrows, gloves, etc. and meet at the stone building to the back right of the cemetery to coordinate our efforts. Please contact [email protected], 203-671-9351, with any questions. Thank you. Alder Brook Cemetery Board of Directors: Ray Dudley, Jim Sullivan, Andrew Page, Kathy Fairbanks, Keith Bishop, Scott Francis, Tracy Tomaselli.
