Cello Program to Benefit Ukraine at First Cnhurch of Christ Scientist
- This event has passed.
June 12 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
A benefit concert for Ukrainian humanitarian relief will take place on Sunday, June 12, at the Church of Christ, Scientist, in Guilford. It will feature music by the cello students of Ann West, a professional cellist who has lived and taught in Guilford for several decades.
West was prompted to create the event by the suffering of victims of the protracted war in Ukraine and by a successful fund-raising project started by one of her private students and his parents. The program, featuring students in West’s Advanced Master Class as well as other cellists of all ages and levels, will begin at 3 p.m., opening with the Ukrainian national anthem and featuring solo and ensemble works by Bach, Brahms, Dvorak, Massanet, Mendelssohn, Paganini and Rachmaninov. The accompanist will be Yale pianist Sara Kohane.
The concert is free and free-will offerings will be accepted. One hundred percent of the donations will be divided between the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee and Misto Dobra (City of Goodness), a nonprofit organization based in western Ukraine that helps women and children displaced by the war.
West is encouraging all artists to find creative ways to turn their art into service for Ukraine. Contact West if you’d like more information about the concert or to volunteer ideas, time and talent to her efforts to help the people of Ukraine.
