NEW LOCATION FOR 2016: GUILFORD FAIRGROUNDS, GUILFORD, CT
The 6th Hammonassett Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, October 1st and 2nd, 2016. Hours are 10AM to 5PM both days. This popular event honors Native American culture and tradition and celebrates our natural world. Because of planned construction throughout Hammonasset Beach State Park this year and the potential impact on the Festival site in the Fall, we have made arrangements to hold this year’s Festival at the Guilford Fairgrounds in Guilford, CT. The Fairgrounds offer a larger event space with ample parking and protection from the wind, in a comfortable outdoor setting. The address is 111 Lovers Lane, Guilford, CT.
Returning for multiple performances each day will be the talented and award winning Native American recording artist Arvel Bird (Paiute), as well as the Native Nations Dance Troupe led by Erin Meeches (Schaghticoke). Allan Saunders (Mohegan) will lead an opening blessing and smudging ceremony each day at 10:30AM.
The Festival features authentic Native American arts and crafts, music, dance and food; live wildlife shows; museum outreach programs and environmental exhibits; and the ever-popular New England Atlatl Championship.
Participating vendors must be pre-approved and pre-registered. Contact [email protected] for vendor information. The Hammonassett Festival is presented by Friends of Hammonasset (FOH). Admission is $5/person; children under 12 are admitted free.
