LEGENDS AND FOLKLORE: Of Hearth and Home at Guilford First Congregational Church

  • This event has passed.

October 18, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This program will journey through three different cultures and worlds of musical traditions: Kodaly, capturing his Hungarian homeland’s folk traditions with rustic jubilance; Weinberg struggling to find his voice under a Soviet regime, whilst conjuring memories of his native Polish/Jewish klezmer roots; and Turina, proudly celebrating his native Spanish traditions with flare and aplomb.

PROGRAM:

Kodaly: Duo for Violin and Cello, Op. 7

Weinberg: Sonata for Viola and Piano, Op. 28

Turina: Piano Quartet, Op. 67

Kobi Malkin, violin | Molly Carr, viola | Andrew Janss, cello | Anna Petrova, piano

PMHU’s 2019-2020 concert season, entitled “Legends and Folklore,” is comprised entirely of works which explore the folk, fantasy, and musical story-telling traditions found in various cultures and periods throughout history. Each of the four concerts in our public concert series will tell a unique story – whether that of refugees using music to cling to their homeland and search for their voice and place in new and foreign lands; or the dark fantasy-world of Edgar Allen Poe’s literature being brought to life through music; or the traditions of gypsy and fiddle music throughout the centuries. All programs will be performed by many of today’s leading folk and chamber musicians from around the globe. This will be a season you will not want to miss!

All season 6 artwork has been generously donated by Rakefet Hadar. For inquiries about purchasing the original, please contact [email protected] All proceeds aid in subsidizing our healing and outreach programming.
