Paintings and Photography of the American West with Historian David Davison at Guilford Free Library
- This event has passed.
November 1, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Historian David Davison leads a lively discussion about artists Albert Bierstadt and Carlton Watkins, and the artistic impact of their depictions of Yosemite Valley. During the mid–late nineteenth century, American society grew increasingly aware of the region’s natural beauty due in great part to the photographs of Carlton Watkins and the paintings of Albert Bierstadt. These two artists saw the land differently, and thus were key to the profound change in how Americans would come to permanently understand and appreciate the value of the western American landscape.
Davison, a Guilford resident, served as the president and CEO of the American Savings Foundation in New Britain from 2000–2015, capping a 39-year career in nonprofits.
