Curated specifically for Valentine’s Day, this program consists entirely of works which tell various stories of “love gone wrong” – from the musical portrayal of Tolstoy’s literary masterpiece, the “Kreutzer Sonata,” to the setting of Matthew Arnold’s “Dover Beach” to music, to Schubert’s monumental and transcendental masterwork: String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, “Death and the Maiden.”
Barber: Dover Beach
Janacek: String Quartet No. 1 (“Kreutzer Sonata”)
Schubert: String Quartet No. 14, D. 810 (“Death and the Maiden”)

PMHU’s 2019-2020 concert season, entitled “Legends and Folklore,” is comprised entirely of works which explore the folk, fantasy, and musical story-telling traditions found in various cultures and periods throughout history. Each of the four concerts in our public concert series will tell a unique story – whether that of refugees using music to cling to their homeland and search for their voice and place in new and foreign lands; or the dark fantasy-world of Edgar Allen Poe’s literature being brought to life through music; or the traditions of gypsy and fiddle music throughout the centuries. All programs will be performed by many of today’s leading folk and chamber musicians from around the globe. This will be a season you will not want to miss!
All season 6 artwork has been generously donated by Rakefet Hadar. For inquiries about purchasing the original, please contact [email protected] All proceeds aid in subsidizing our outreach programming.
