Pierced History

Saturday, January 21, 2017
Snow Date: Sunday, January 22, 2017
1:30 PM

After we clean up the cookie crumbs and put all back in order, The Dudley Farm Museum will present Lorraine German from Mad River Antiques in North Granby for a presentation entitled Pieced History. Lorraine will discuss the history of textiles in America and its influence on the development of the American quilt, which resulted in the quilt’s evolution from an elegant domestic furnishing reserved only for the wealthy to the familiar pieced bedcover available to households of all income levels.

Our antique quilt frame will be set up to display a quilt recently made by the Dudley Farm Quilters, and we also anticipate being able to display our recently-conserved Potter Crazy Quilt with the Blizzard of 1888 as its subject matter. A small historical display of that event will also be featured.

Please join us Saturday, January 21st (snow date January 22nd) at 1:30 PM in the lower level of the heated Munger Barn. Admission is free, but donations to support our textile collection are appreciated. An RSVP to [email protected] or call to 203-457-0770 is appreciated in the event of cancellation.
